Thought we fired the final Hereditary Peers? 26 are coming straight back. Political insiders shouldn’t get to appoint each other to Parliament

The era of Hereditary Peers was supposed to be over. Yet when everyone was distracted by leadership challenges to the Prime Minister, they sneaked out a list of 26 former Hereditary Peers that would be waltzing back into the Lords with new Life Peerages.

It just shows how the House of Lords is still powered by outdated privilege and political cronyism.

For too long, the House of Lords has been used as a reward scheme for political allies, big-money donors, and the well-connected.

Removing some hereditary peers doesn't go far enough. It’s time to finish the job and deliver real, lasting change.
