The last government vandalised the way we elect our Mayors - and now we're seeing the damage.

We always used to be able to put down a second choice as a backup when picking who becomes our mayors. It meant candidates had to be broadly popular to win, but not anymore.

The last Government snuck in a clause to strip us of this power as they rushed through the Elections Act in 2022.

Now we're seeing the damage, with mayors being elected on low shares of the vote - when the majority didn't want them.
